Your Guide to Understanding CRI (Color Rendering Index)

What is CRI?

Have you ever wondered why some lights make colors look vibrant and true-to-life, while others seem to make the room and objects in it look dull or distorted? The answer lies in a measure called the Color Rendering Index, or CRI. In simple terms, CRI is a numerical value that indicates how accurately a light source renders the colors of objects compared to natural sunlight.

What is a good CRI?

A higher CRI means a more accurate color rendition. Ideally, you should aim for a CRI of 90 or above. This ensures that the colors you see under the light are as close as possible to how they would appear in natural light.

High vs. Low CRI

The difference between high and low CRI is significant. A CRI of 90+ is considered excellent, providing accurate and vibrant colors. Anything lower, such as 80+, can lead to a decrease in color accuracy. While lower CRI bulbs might still be functional, they may not showcase the true beauty of your home or the objects within it.

Is CRI the same as color temperature?

While CRI and color temperature are both important factors in lighting, they are not the same. CRI measures a light source's color accuracy compared to natural light, while color temperature measures how cool or warm a light source appears. Color temperature is measured in Kelvin (2700K, 3500K, 4000K, etc.), while CRI is measured on a scale of 0 to 100.

Overall, CRI is a crucial factor to consider when choosing lighting for your home or workplace. A high CRI, such as 90+, ensures that colors are accurately rendered, creating a more vibrant and inviting atmosphere. Feit Electric's Enhance Vivid Natural Light bulbs offer exceptional color rendering, making them an ideal choice for various applications. By understanding the importance of CRI and choosing high-quality lighting, you can transform your space and enjoy the benefits of accurate color rendition.
